Virtual worlds can be used to simulate all different aspects of life, from the work area to home life to a life nothing like reality, as with toys.
In the work life, you can simulate meetings, or train your employees. In the article "Avatar II: The Hospital", you have a virtual hospital where patients needing medical attention can be cared for, so you can have practice on how to treat them, rather than practicing on real life patients, which would be riskier.
In the simulation of home life, you can go to bars and clubs and listen to music or like in the article "No Budget, No boundaries: It's the Real You" it tells how you can buy all the luxury goods and clothing you like without actually having to pay the real world price, so that an average nurse can live out her alto ego and wear the designer brands that either she can't afford or career doesn't allow her the time to.
Most of the articles mention a lot of pros of having a virtual world, as some that I mention above. It's a way to sharpen your skills for your career and also a way to live a life that you dream to live, but can't; like if in real life, you can't walk, virtual reality can help with fulfilling those fantasies.
There is also the pro of fostering creativity, as the article "Going to the virtual office in Second Life" pointed out, when the business had a virtual meeting, the virtual environment was so engaging, a lot more ideas came through. Or as when I mentioned how you can dress or wear your hair however you like, without having to worry about what the real world thought.
The cons of this would just be that sometimes this might take you away from living your life, the REAL life. The fact that Facebook has taken on a world of it's own, where many are spending hours living their life on Facebook, it would not be a surprise that there are many who would also enjoy spending hours living their life on the virtual world too, especially when you can see there are a lot of advantages of the virtual world.
